| The last thing I thought I would be doing on a Friday evening is hanging out with X-Nilo in Jason Moores garage. Members Greg Tetrault, Tyler Williams, Blake Hufman, Jason Moore and Mike Snowden have been together for three years and are still going strong. Claiming to be influenced by such artists as The Monkees, Bach, N’Sync and Shakira, but actually influenced by Creed, POD, Silverchair and Papa Roach, X-Nilo takes on a style of heavy metal and alternative rock. X-Nilo, a name given to them by Tyler’s extensive Latin studies, means ‘out of nothing,’ which is also the title of their new CD. Originally, Jeff White (God rest his soul) came up with the name Spoon, while sitting at a table looking at spoons. Unfortunately, the name was already taken. The guys are particularly proud of their recent release, which can be purchased at local music stores, but have nothing good to say about past release of "Freak." They are planning to be signed to label they started on their own, but refuse to release any more information about that. But on a lighter side, Tyler would love to tour with Britney Spears or Shakira, while Mike dreams of touring with POD and Blindside. Blake voted on touring with Project 86 and Greg didn’t have much to say about anything. As well as being band members, the guys have been friends for many years. Ever since Jason and Blake were wee-little kids in kindergarten, they have been friends, but Mike claims to have only known Blake for five minutes. They all said that Tyler just plays drums, they don’t really know him. But all jokes aside, they seem to be a happy little group of friends. Serious, they’re not, but friendly, they are. I asked them if they still see their friends and fans from Dimond High School, and they said that the freshmen of Dimond are the only friends they have. As sad as that is, I get good money pretending to be their friends. But seriously, if you haven’t heard X-Nilo live, then I suggest you do. These Christian guys are worth the time, even if they like O’Henry bars and Paydays. |
